Stage 2 Studios and Lace Games have announced that the release date for the upcoming indie PC game Lifeless Planet has been set for June 6, 2014.

The third-person action-adventure game puts the player in the boots of an astronaut that's on a one-way mission to a planet far outside our solar system, investigating the promise of a new Earth.

Unfortunately for our protagonist, upon landing on the planet, all manner of hope is lost, as the interstellar hunk of rock turns out to be barren and inhospitable, instead of teeming with life.

Things take a further turn for the worse when he discovers that he is not the first human visitor to the mysterious world, as he uncovers evidence that humans have already been to the planet years ago.

As he comes upon a deserted Soviet-era town, he struggles to make sense of the entire mission, wondering whether his light-speed voyage to the planet sent him back in time, or whether it is all just part of some strange Cold War hoax.

He eventually meets a Russian astronaut, a woman who was somehow able to survive the world's hostile atmosphere. Through an eerie natural phenomenon, her skin causes the soil to glow green under her feet, and the player has to follows the glowing tracks around the planet, to find out whether they are leading him to safety or to an untimely death.

Lifeless Planet has been developed almost single handedly by David Board of Stage 2 Studios, over a long and arduous journey that spans two and a half years, and his main source of inspiration was Cold War era science fiction, posing questions about humanity's desire for space travel.

Gamers will only be equipped with a limited-use jetpack, a mobile robotic arm and their wits, and will have to solve puzzles and unravel the deep mystery that surrounds the Lifeless Planet.

"When I first set-off down this path some two and a half years ago, little did I know just how much of my life would be dominated by this labor of love. More than anything else, I am absolutely thrilled that the gaming world will at last get to enjoy the game that is LIFELESS PLANET," Board shared.

The game will be available for purchase from Steam and other digital retailer services, starting June 6. It is also currently available as an Early Access title, for those who can't wait until the full launch.

Lifeless Planet will feature text and voice overs in English, along with full text and subtitles in German, Russian, French and Spanish.
