PolitiFacts names Obama’s statement biggest lie for its impact on average Americans

Barack Obama is the official and not-so-proud owner of the title of Lie of the Year 2013, as voted by readers of PolitiFact. The lie that got him this unwanted distinction is “If you like your healthcare plan, you can keep it.”

As the video above can confirm, the lie isn’t actually a new one, though it was repeated countless times in 2013: Obama first said it in 2009 and insisted on it throughout 2013, until the healthcare law was passed and he had to switch his tune.

First, he tried to claim that he’d been misunderstood and that he hadn’t really said it (though there aren’t that many ways that you can interpret that sentence), but he was eventually forced to issue a formal apology for not being more careful in the choosing of his words.

For the impact Obama’s promise had on the average American and for the huge PR and political faux-pas, PolitiFact says there’s no other lie that better deserves the title of Lie of the Year 2013. What do you think?
