Toshiba's digital product division announced yesterday the launching of the Libretto U100 mini-notebook. Weighing a little over 1 Kg, the system offers performances comparable to those of a classic desktop one, but offers in addition wireless connection through a mini-PCI 802.11b/g port. The WXGA display has a diagonal of 7.2 inches and a resolution of 1280 x 768; this
solution is based on the LED backlight technology.

For such a small notebook, the storing solution chosen by Toshiba is a 1.8 inch 60GB hard disk. The system benefits from the EasyGuard data protection solution, which consists of a complicated system of hardware and software elements. EasyGuard ensures the mobile security, network connectivity, simplicity of usage, hard disk protection, or fingerprint authentication.

Libretto U100 is based on the Intel Pentium M Ultra Low Voltage 753 platform (which operates at 1.2 GHz, has 2 MB Level 2 cache memory, and the Front Side Bus operates at 400 MHz) and the Intel 855GME chipset. These components are backed up by 512 MB of RAM operating at 33 MHz, and Microsoft Windows XP Professional. Optionally, the system can be connected to a DVD dock through optic DVD SuperMulti.

Tecra M4 completes Toshiba's offer and provides the classic operating way of a notebook, but also the tablet PC way, where the display is folded over the keyboard, imitating a graphical tablet which uses the stylus to input data. The system has a 14 inches LCD display and offers
Office OneNote.
