After the success of the first ever crowdfunding campaign for the Librem 15 portable laptop powered by an open-source Linux kernel-based operating system called PureOS, Purism has now announced a new crowdfunding campaign for its upcoming Librem 13 laptop.

Librem 13 aims to be the little brother of Librem 15, with a smaller and lighter design, as well as much cheaper and portable, but still powered by the PureOS distribution of GNU/Linux created by Purism. The 13.3-inch laptop is built chip-by-chip and designed from the ground up to protect your freedom, privacy, and security.

Being based on the 64-bit edition of the Trisquel Linux distribution, PureOS (Purism Operating System) comes pre-installed with all the applications you would expect, such as Internet browser, email client, word processor, graphics editor, multimedia player, spreadsheet and presentation editors, drawing tools, image viewers, and much more.

"Right now you are vulnerable to adversaries stealing your personal data for their gain. Thieves stealing your identity, credit cards, and banking logins, scammers taking over your email, criminals watching you through your web cam, marketers profiling your personal data from websites, and, ISPs wholesale gathering of all your insecure communication. You can stop them all," says Purism in the campaign for Librem 13.

Weighing only 1.4kg (3.0lbs) and with an aluminum enclosure body, the Librem 13 laptop computer also sports an SDXC card slot, three USB 3.0 ports, one HDMI port, an integrated 720p webcam, a headphone jack, integrated HD audio, hardware kill switches for WiFi, Mic, and Webcam, as well as a 48 Wh lithium polymer battery that promises to last for up to 8 hours of usage.
