For those of you who own a Chromebook, but are still nostalgic about Microsoft Office and being able to work with spreadsheets and presentations, LibreOffice comes to your rescue.

The developer company, the Document Foundation has just announced that the most recent version of the free open source office suite is now available on Chromebooks as a cloud application.

This means users won’t have to bother downloading the app on their device, but instead they can access LiberOffice in-browser, in order to stream an on-demand copy of the suite directly on their favorite cloud storage: Dropbox, Google Drive and Box. From there, they can open, save and edit documents like they’d normally do.

The Document Foundation uses rollApp online virtualization technology in order to achieve this feat and eliminate the need for installing additional software. Basically, users can edit files anywhere.

LibreOffice offers four different applications – LibreOffice Calc, LibreOffice Impress, LibreOffice Writer and LibreOffice Draw – that cover everything from creating spreadsheets and diagrams to basic word processing.
