A new LibreOffice RC has been released into the wild

The Document Foundation has revealed that the second RC (Release Candidate) for the LibreOffice 4.4.4 branch has been released and it should now be available for download and testing.

Everyone is focused on the new LibreOffice 5.0 branch, which should bring some significant changes, but we don't have to forget that other branches are still being maintained and improved. For example, the 4.4.x branch of LibreOffice is still the most advanced available right now and it looks like a new stable release is really close.

LibreOffice 4.4.4 will only get a couple of Release Candidates, but that's not really all that unusual. It's an advanced version and a number of maintenance releases have been made already and there are very few things that are left to fix. In fact, if you take a look at the second RC, you will notice that only a couple of issues have been corrected. The bulk of the modifications landed in RC1.

LibreOffice 4.4.4 is not the last one

As you might suspect, this is just another maintenance version and it's not featuring anything out of the ordinary. Most of the things fixed are not all that important, but we can discern a couple of more important improvements. It's also worth noting that a couple more releases are planned after this one.

According to the changelog, an unexpected table row break that happened during RTF import has been fixed, a few issues with ODF import have been corrected, the cursor is no longer hiding in presentation mode, some of the menus have been refined, and a simple Writer crash has been corrected.

You can download the LibreOffice 4.4.4 RC2 source packages from Softpedia if you want to compile them yourself, but please make sure that you don't run two concurrent versions at the same time. You can also get the Windows or Mac OS X versions from Softpedia as well.
