GTK+ 3.16.3 toolkit has been merged with Debian

On June 2, Will Cooke reported the regular weekly summary about what was implemented in the Ubuntu operating system and what features would arrive in the coming weeks.

The Ubuntu Desktop meeting took place the other day, which means that we can now report the availability of the LibreOffice 4.4.3 open-source office suite into the main software repositories of the current stable release of the distribution, Ubuntu 15.04 (Vivid Vervet).

However, we've verified our Ubuntu 15.04 machines for the update, and the LibreOffice 4.4.3 packages are not available at the moment of writing this article, which means that they will most probably become live later today or tomorrow.

Moreover, the GTK+ 3.16.3 GUI toolkit has been merged with the upstream Debian GNU/Linux operating system, and the gtk-doc, gobject-introspection, gnome-terminal, yelp, vte, tracker, and grilo-plugins packages from the GNOME Stack have been updated.

There's also a workaround for an issue with telephone keypad sounds that were playing while the Ubuntu system was set on silent mode. The complete log is available on the mailinglist announcement if you want to see what exactly the Ubuntu developers talked about.

The Desktop Next images will be rebased on Ubuntu 15.10

Furthermore, Will Cooke reports that the Desktop Next system images will be rebased on the Ubuntu 15.10 (Wily Werewolf) operating system, as well as the latest trunk versions, and that the team is still working on making the Snappy Desktop Next images to boot successfully on UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) systems.

"We're still having some issues getting the new Snappy Desktop Next image to boot successfully under UEFI. Work is ongoing to fix that. Xmir is currently not working in W, but again we working on fixing that," says Will Cooke, Ubuntu Desktop Engineering Manager at Canonical.
