The Document Foundation announces that the first Beta version of LibreOffice 4.3 has been released and is now available for download and testing.

The developers from The Document Foundation are making some progress in the new 4.3 branch, which promises to bring some very interesting changes, not only under the hood of the software, but also in the visual department.

There are no particular details about this branch of the application, but the devs have made public some of their goals for the 4.3 release.

For example, the numbers of the characters in a paragraph will be raised from 16-bit to 32-bit, the Navigation buttons will be moved from below the scrollbar to the Find bar, a new drawingML-based DOCX import/export filter for shapes and TextFrames will be implemented, and a number of import and export filters for nested comments will be added for the ODF, DOC, DOCX, and RTF formats.

Also, images will be scaled proportionally by default, the DOCX import now has a progress bar, multiple relations will be now supported for relative text frames, and comments will be printed next to the text in the right margin as they appear on screen.

Remember that this is a development version and it should NOT be installed on production machines. It is intended for testing purposes only.
