Canonical is preparing for the release of Ubuntu 13.10 (Saucy Salamander) and it seems that it intends to integrate the latest LibreOffice 4.1.2 into its operating system.

Ubuntu developers are not usually interested in implementing the latest version of any particular software. They usually go for stability, which can only be proven in time.

Even so, Canonical is now determined to implement the latest stable Linux kernel, 3.11, and the latest LibreOffice suite, 4.1.2. It's unclear whether they'll be able to do it because the final version of LibreOffice 4.1.2 might arrive after the final freeze of the distribution.

Unfortunately, Canonical doesn't continue this trend with Linux kernel and LibreOffice after the launch. It tends to stick with one version for the entire release cycle.

Ubuntu 13.10 (Saucy Salalamder) is expected to arrive on October 17.
