LibreOffice 3.3.2 Is Now Available for Download

A few minutes ago, The Document Foundation company launched the second maintenance release of the LibreOfficeb 3.3 open source office suite for Linux, Windows and Macintosh platforms. The next major release, LibreOffice 3.4 will be released in mid May, 2011.

LibreOffice 3.3.2 is available now (see download links at the end of the article), for both 32-bit and 64-bit architectures. The new release fixes some important bugs, updates several translations. Overall it is much stable than the previous release and everyone is encourage to update.

"The community of developers has been able to maintain the tight schedule thanks to the increase in the number of contributors, and to the fact that those that have started with easy hacks in September 2010 are now working at substantial features. In addition, they have almost completed the code cleaning process, getting rid of German comments and obsolete functionalities." - says in the press release.

Highlights of LibreOffice 3.3:

· ability to work with and import SVG files;
· import filter for Lotus Word Pro documents;
· import filter for Microsoft Works documents;
· easily format title pages and numbering in LibreOffice Writer;
· enhanced Navigator Tool in LibreOffice Writer;
· better ergonomics for cell and sheet management in LibreOffice Calc;
· PDF import support;
· slide-show presenter console;
· better report builder;
· comes bundled with lots of great extensions.

"Italo Vignoli, a founder and a steering committee member of The Document Foundation, will be keynoting at Flourish 2011 in Chicago on Sunday, April 3, at 10:30AM, about getting independent from OpenOffice and Oracle, starting The Document Foundation, raising the capital and the first community budget, organizing developers and other work, and outlining a roadmap for future releases and features. " - was stated at the end of the press release.

Oracle's OpenOffice.org is being replaced by the new and acclaimed LibreOffice suite in many Linux distributions, including openSUSE 11.4 and the upcoming Ubuntu 11.04 (Natty Narwhal) operating system.

Hey, I love that it can import documents from so many different sources. I wish this suite supported MS .Pub though - then my wife will use Ubuntu happily ^^
