A few minutes ago, The Document Foundation company launched the first maintenance release of the LibreOffice 3.3 open source office suite for Linux, Windows and Macintosh platforms. LibreOffice 3.3.1 brings stability improvements, bug fixes and new colorful icons.

LibreOffice 3.3.1 is available now (see download links at the end of the article), for both 32-bit and 64-bit architectures, and ready to be included in the upcoming Ubuntu 11.04 operating system. It updates several language versions, it is much stable than the previous release, and it brings new colorful and beautiful icons based on company's branding guidelines.

"LibreOffice 3.3 was our very first stable release, and the feedback from users has been extremely positive. [...] We have managed to troubleshoot a large number of bugs within a very short time, in order to maintain our enterprising release schedule. There will be another minor release in a month, before our second feature release in early May." - says Thorsten Behrens, LibreOffice developer.

Highlights of LibreOffice 3.3:

· ability to work with and import SVG files; · import filter for Lotus Word Pro documents; · import filter for Microsoft Works documents; · easily format title pages and numbering in LibreOffice Writer; · enhanced Navigator Tool in LibreOffice Writer; · better ergonomics for cell and sheet management in LibreOffice Calc; · PDF import support; · slide-show presenter console; · better report builder; · comes bundled with lots of great extensions.

"During next week end, US volunteers from The Document Foundation will be taking part at this year's Southern California Linux Festival (SCALE) in Long Beach, CA, showcasing LibreOffice 3.3.1 for Linux, Windows and MacOS in Booth #4 in the International Ballroom." - says at the end of the press release.

Oracle's OpenOffice.org is being replaced by the new and acclaimed LibreOffice suite in many Linux distributions, including Knoppix, Pardus and Ubuntu. LibreOffice 3.3 will also be the default office suite for the upcoming Ubuntu 11.04 (Natty Narwhal) operating system.
