The SuperSpeed USB 3.0 standard, though not natively supported on any Intel or AMD chipsets yet, has grown in popularity despite the odds. Apparently, the 5Gbps bandwidth is more than appealing enough for hardware makers to decide on using third-party solutions, like controller chips. For makers of enclosures, this means that providing 'future-proof' products may turn out to be quite profitable in the long run. Lian Li, for instance, can be seen as one of the main advocates of the technology, especially considering its latest claim.

Lian Li has been selling chassis and peripherals for over 20 years and performs industrial wholesale, as well as OEM and ODM services for the IT industry. Today, it has published a press release in which it proudly says it owns the largest number of desktop enclosures with support for USB 3.0.

To be more specific, there are seventeen distinct cases that have USB 3.0 ports. Many of these were shown off at Computex 2010 in Taipei. Not only that, but Lian Li also offers a number of so-called accessory products compatible with this next-generation interface.

“We pride ourselves on giving customers the best quality products money can buy. Quickly incorporating new technological advances into our products is standard operating procedure at Lian Li. Just like with our tool-less installation designs, we are again leading the way in incorporating SuperSpeed USB 3.0 ports among computer chassis manufacturers.” said Michael Chen, General Manager at Lian Li.

The company already has several HDD enclosures designed to communicate via USB 3.0 on sale, as well as a number of PCI Express controller cards and/or USB 3.0 hubs. To these are added several USB 3.0 I/O port upgrade kits. All of these are accompanied by a 2-year warranty unless their maker decides otherwise.
