Puppies all over the world, especially those abused or mistreated, you have a new friend in Liam Neeson. The actor who, in recent years, has seen a boost in popularity as he became a bona fide action movie star, is now hailed as a real-life hero as well after saving a puppy that was being stoned to death by a group of hooligans.

There is no confirmation for the report, but LifeWithDogs says they have it on very good authority that it happened just recently, as the actor was taking his regular jog in Central Park.

At one point, a woman alerted him that she had come across a group of hooligans who had cornered a dog and were throwing stones at it. Neeson didn’t waste time in acting, and he approached them to get them to stop.

“Abruptly changing direction, Liam charged down a path and confronted three gangbanger wannabe types who were throwing rocks at a stray they’d cornered up against a trash bin. Liam yelled that they’d better stop or he’d knock the [expletive] out of them,” an eyewitness says.

Apparently, the hooligans had not heard yet of Neeson’s “very particular set of skills” and his ability to track anyone down to inflict serious bodily harm upon them (video reference embedded above), so they found his intervention quite amusing. They even tried to shoo him away but, soon though, they learned that he wasn’t joking.

“The punks just swaggered up and warned him to mind his own business. In a fury, he warned them to back off fast – or else! ‘Yeah, okay, man… we’re out of here,’ the apparent ringleader said,” adds the same eyewitness.

Another source tells the publication that chances are the boys stopped what they were doing and ran for cover because they’d seen that a policeman was also approaching, and didn’t want to get in too much trouble.

Until the cop arrived there, the actor reportedly approached the dog and petted it, trying to get it to understand that the ordeal is over. His good deed for the day was complete once the officer told him he could go back to his jog because he’d handle the matter from then on.

If this story is true, we hope the puppy is ok now. If it’s not… well, at least we can imagine that Neeson, though he is such a tough guy on screen, would definitely do something as honorable and sweet as this.
