The Samsung SCH-M510 is the first mobile phone to feature LiMo that will become available for purchase in Korea, the LiMo Foundation announced recently. The new handset will arrive on the Korean market via wireless carrier SK Telecom, which joins operators like NTT DOCOMO and Vodafone in launching LiMo Compliant devices. The new Samsung SCH-M510 is the 45th LiMo compliant device ever announced.

“Today’s announcement that SK Telecom will be bringing its first LiMo compliant handset to market is a significant milestone in the ongoing global growth and adoption of LiMo technologies,” said Morgan Gillis, executive director of LiMo Foundation. “LiMo’s global operators are committed to providing highly compelling and customized LiMo devices to their mobile subscribers – this initial handset from Samsung and SKT demonstrates the rapid maturation and opportunity within the LiMo ecosystem.”

The new Samsung SCH-M510 comes to the market with great multimedia capabilities, while also offering support for a wide range of audio and video file formats. The handset sports a 3.5-inch WVGA AMOLED screen, as well as a 5-megapixel photo snapper, along with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity and accelerometer, proximity and ambient light sensors.

Samsung is very pleased to deliver this LiMo compliant device to SK Telecom and into the Korean marketplace,” said Jong-In Kim vice president of Product Planning Team at Samsung Electronics. “Samsung has now released three LiMo compliant handsets, which demonstrate Samsung’s deep commitment to the LiMo Foundation and also to the flexibility of the LiMo Platform.”

The announcement regarding SCH-M510's launch has been made during the same day in which the formation of Korea LiMo Ecosystem Association was unveiled. The initiative has received support from the Ministry of Knowledge Economy from within the Korean Government, and is aimed at supporting innovation and the introduction of LiMo products and services on the Korean marketplace.

SK Telecom is proud to provide our subscribers with the first LiMo compliant handset for the Korean marketplace,” said Sungcheol Hong, senior vice president and head of Next Internet Business Group, SK Telecom. “The independent nature of the LiMo Platform makes it an ideal foundation for a customized mobile experience for SK Telecom’s customers. We’re glad to deliver this initial LiMo handset and will continue to work within the LiMo ecosystem to develop value-added services in 2010.”
