Lexmark's latest release is firmware version LW30.TU.P329 for the MX710, MX711, MX810, MX811, MX812, XM5163, XM5170, XM7155, XM7163, and XM7170 printers. Among the numerous fixes and enhancements, what comes to my attention is the improvement in energy saving, the addition of MRC compression option for PDF output, and support for Windows Server 2012.

Also, the email functionality issue, where Gmail would stop working when MFPUsage was configured has been fixed, and the interface has been changed to improve the efficiency of the Downtime Reports app.

If you've downloaded the firmware from the link above, you're definitely keen on updating your printer. The paragraphs below will give you a step by step guide for the installation.

First of all, prepare a formatted USB memory drive and copy the file with the “.fls” extension to its root folder. Safely remove the device when that's done and head to your printer.

Plug the flash drive to the front USB port and pay attention to the screen. “Print from USB” should appear within a few seconds. If that doesn't happen, use the left or right arrow keys to navigate through the menu to the named feature.

Access the USB memory stick and select the firmware file. The message “Program Device: Yes” should come up next. Accept this setting and proceed to the actual update.

The installation will now start and various messages will be displayed. Wait patiently for a while and, when the printer restarts and “USB Menu: Print from USB” is displayed, the installation is complete.

Get the latest firmware for your Lexmark printer, install it, and stay “updated one minute ago.”
