Multifunction printers aren't something consumers actually use, but they are definitely common among businesses of all kinds, so Lexmark launching a pair of new ones isn't that unexpected.

The two MFPs (multifunction printers) that Lexmark just announced are of the color laser type and bear the names of X548de and X548dte.

They have all the features of their ilk, as well as advanced security capabilities not overly common for them.

Said security comes in the form of user authentication and authorization controls, as well as security-audit logging.

Underneath all the passwords, though, the MFPs are still MFPs, thought even then they aren't exactly common.

After all, not every printer and scanner out there can scan directly to e-mail or FTP, or scan to fax, to the networks or flash drives.

Even the ease of use was taken up a notch, thanks to the 7-inch color touchscreens that make navigation intuitive and quick, via shortcuts and pre-loaded applications that can be customized according to business needs.

Furthermore, as a distinction between the two newcomers, the Lexmark X548dte has an internal hard disk drive (with its own encryption), plus a 650-sheet Duo Drawer.

Adding to that is a duplex automatic document feeder, which allows for duplex color-scanning with a 50-sheet input capacity.

“The introduction of the X548 smart MFPs strengthens Lexmark's position in a strategic growth area for our company - workgroup colour laser devices,” said Marty Canning, Lexmark executive vice president and president of Imaging Solutions and Services.

“We are committed to driving innovative, disruptive A4 technology with smart devices, customizable with industry-leading software and tailored solutions, to make our business customers more productive.”

The Lexmark X548de (SG$2,449 / $1963 / 1,401 Euro) and Lexmark X548dte (SG$3,059 / $2,452 / 1,750 Euro) are already up for order through Lexmark's authorized business partners.
