Memory manufacturer Lexar Media has just announced the availability of its new memory offering, comprised of Crucial 800MHz fully buffered DIMM (FBDIMM) memory modules. The kits are available in
sizes of GB, 4GB and 8GB, and are the perfect companion for the newly-released Skulltrail gaming platform from Intel.

The Crucial FBDIMM offerings are OEM-quality memory modules targeted especially at Mac systems, such as the new Quad and 8 core Mac Pro and Xserve products.

"The new 800MHz FBDIMM modules feature density and performance improvements ideal for mission-critical servers and workstations which require maximum performance and a low error rate, without sacrificing the reliability Crucial products are known for throughout the industry," stated Jim Jardine, Lexar Media's senior product marketing manager. "Mac users will also enjoy the same module density increases, performance boosts and reliability with the new 800MHz FBDIMM modules, including modules designed specifically for the new Mac Pro."

The Lexar Crucial FBDIMM memory modules are built with chips from the well-known DRAM chip manufacturer Micron Technology. The 2GB offering comes in a single memory card in a 240-pin DIMM package. The Fully Buffered memory is built with DDR2 PC2-5300 chips and offer clock latencies of 5-5-5-6. The 4GB kit comes in two 2GB memory cards based on the same memory chips with identical specifications, while the 8 GB

FB-DIMM memory modules are designed to deliver extreme performance to match the demands of memory-intensive applications. That is why FB-DIMM memory tends to run significantly hotter than other types of DRAM memory. Lexar's Crucial FB-DIMM memory modules come with specially-engineered heat spreaders that dissipate higher amounts of heat over a short period of time.

The modules can be already purchased from the producer's website. The 2 GB kit sells for as much as $142, while the 4 and the 8 GB versions come with price tags of $283 and $1051, respectively.
