It has a normal-sized and a Micro USB 3.0 port as well, with 120 MB/s speed

The SuperSpeed USB 3.0 technology rarely comes in microUSB format, but when it does you can be sure that you're looking at one of the best USB-connected devices around. Case in point, the Lexar JumpDrive M20 Mobile.

The JumpDrive M20 Mobile USB 3.0 flash drive has not one, but two universal serial bus connectors. One is a full-size version, the other a microUSB port.

In both cases, the performance is the same, with reading occurring at up to 120 MB/s. The writing speed wasn't specifically mentioned, but it should be of around 40 MB/s at least, maybe more.

It depends on the capacity in the end. That's how it goes with all NAND Flash-based storage devices really. It has to do with the technology and number of chips that are available for access at any time.

In a nutshell, this will allow you to transfer a video clip or film of 3 GB from the flash drive to the PC in less than one minute.

I don't need to tell you that USB 2.0 takes up to ten times as long. Perils of the 4.8 Mbps transfer speed, versus the 5 Gbps bandwidth of SuperSpeed.

The perks of JumpDrive M20 Mobile

Basically, this is a USB On-The-Go (OTG)-enabled device, which means it can see Android tablets or smartphones as it would a PC, like a host system. Normally, you would need to use a PC as an intermediary, or some sort of cable or Wi-Fi technology.

However, with USB OTG technology you can use the Micro USB port to easily transfer files to and from a phone/tablet, and still be able to use a PC normally with the regular USB connector.

Moreover, the Lexar device has a certain advantage over most other USB OTG drives. Well, other than the support for USB 3.0 instead of just 2.0 anyhow.

Long story short, its thumb retractor pulls both USB ports inside the main flash drive body. With others, you have to switch between them, because pulling one port inside automatically pushes the one on the other end out.

Availability and pricing

The Lexar JumpDrive M20 Mobile USB 3.0 OTG flash drive will start shipping next month (October 2014) for $34.99 / €27 (16 GB), $54.99 / €43 (32 GB), and $64.99 / €50 (64 GB). Finally, in addition to PCs and Android devices, they are compatible with Mac systems, so Apple fans needn't feel left out.
