When it comes to flash drives, they can perform a number of tasks and fill various roles, and it looks like Lexar went for secure backup when it built and sent out the Echo MX and ZX models.

Lexar Media, being the maker of memory and NAND Flash storage devices that it is, was, naturally, not going to let too much pass by without some sort of product announcement.

Case in point, the outfit just announced that a certain pair of flash drive units have now been set up for sale.

When speaking of flash drives, one thinks of those small, stick-like objects that can store a considerable amount of data in a very small package.

In this case, the Echo MX goes from 8 GB to 128 GB (16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB in between), while the Echo ZX come in 8 GB, 16 GB and 32 GB.

Their purpose is not to act as means of transferring just any data from a system to another, but to constantly back up and encrypt important files automatically.

To this end, both series feature 128bit AES encryption and all the software needed to carry out said continuous operations without user input.

"Whether a business professional presenting on the road or a student backing up an assignment, protecting the valuable files stored on mobile devices is a top priority for today's consumers," said Jyh Chau, senior product marketing manager, Lexar Media.

"As more and more users embrace mobile computing, the need for backup technology that fits the on-the-go lifestyle is increasing, and with the Echo MX and ZX drives we are providing an automatic, easy solution."

The Echo MX can read data at up to 30 MB/s and write it at 17 MB/s, whereas the Echo ZX works at 28 MB/s and 15 MB/s, respectively.

As for pricing, the Echo ZX hovers between $29.99 and $99.99, while the Echo MX goes from $29.99 to $399.99.
