Since the third quarter is now up and running, hardware makers are well into the process of updating their product offers. Lexar Media, of course, will not lag behind, which is why it entered the spotlight and revealed its latest, high-capacity flash device specifically optimized for backup tasks. Said USB flash drive is part of the Echo SE series and has a total of 128 GB of storage space. It seeks to combine basic functionality with security features and convenience.

The Echo SE line was released about two months ago and features models of 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB. The 128 GB newcomer will be tasked with propelling the family upwards but, besides its higher capacity, doesn't differ from its siblings overmuch, if at all. For one, it communicates with Host PCs via the USB 2.0 interface. This allows data to be read from it at 28 MB/s, and be written at 10 MB/s. Additionally, the drive comes with the benefits of 128-bit AES encryption, by means of the built-in Dmailer software.

"When it comes to backup solutions, a higher capacity means larger amounts of data can be easily and conveniently protected against loss," said Jyh Chau, senior product marketing manager, Lexar Media. "We are pleased to announce the addition of the 128GB drive to the Echo SE line. With its automatic, customizable software capabilities, consumers living a mobile lifestyle can now back up a large number of files on a single drive."

The Lexar Media Echo SE 128 GB member can perform backup tasks automatically once plugged into a computer's USB port and is compatible with not just Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7, but also Mac OS X. The official website and online retailers are already selling it, priced at $500 and backed by a five-year warranty.
