From time to time, it's OK to take a break from all the tablets, Sandy Bridge notebooks and connected 3D HDTVs being presented at CES 2011 and focus on something slightly different, such as the brand-new S50, V10, and S70 JumpDrive USB 2.0 flash drives from Lexar Media.

The JumpDrive S70 features a retractable connector design with thumb slide and is available in 4GB, 8GB, 16GB, 32GB and 64GB versions, coming pre-loaded with a security software suite that enables users to password protect certain areas of the drive or permanently delete files contained within.

Next in line comes the JumpDrive S50 (also available in 4 through 64GB versions), that comes packed with a protective, sliding cover to protect the USB connector, and a data transfer LED indicator light.

What's really important to mention in the case of the S50 is the fact that it features Microban antimicrobial protection, which is built-in during the manufacturing process to inhibit the growth of bacteria and mold.

Last, but certainly not least, the JumpDrive V10 features a translucent cap that protects the USB and is available in several color versions, each associated to a specific storage capacity (light blue 4GB, blue 8GB, orange 16GB, and white 32GB).

“As a leading provider of USB flash drives, Lexar Media strives to stay ahead of consumer needs by providing products that fit into today’s data-heavy, mobile lifestyle,” said Aaron Lee, senior product marketing manager, Lexar Media.

“By enhancing both design and functionality, we’re bringing a variety of USB storage options to on-the-go consumers that meet their individual needs – whether they’re technology experts or novices – allowing them to reliably move and store data and media files in a small, portable format,” Mr. Lee added.

Lexar informs us that their new USB flash drives should theoretically hit the shelves at some point in Q1, 2011, but pricing and/or availability details have not yet been provided.

I'm thinking of getting a Lexar USB myself, but I had no idea whether to get a S50 or S70 Jumpstart. But I've never heard of USBs having problems with mold or bacteria...
