Intel has just officially launched its latest series of server processors, known as the Xeon 5600, which is made up of a number of quad-core and six-core CPUs that will enable new performance levels for servers and data centers. Now, in the wake of this announcement, Lexar has emerged claiming that it has developed a set of memory products that have already been validated for this CPU lineup. Known as the Crucial DDR3L-1333MHz, the new memory modules will provide enterprise installations with high-performance memory at a low power consumption.

The new memory line features 1GB, 2GB and 4GB RDIMM modules, as well as VLP (very low profile) RDIMMs. They are aimed at servers used for virtualization, data storage or data processing and, according to the manufacturer, will also greatly improve the performance of blade servers. Not only that, but the new RAM is also compatible with legacy DDR3 server systems and, besides operating on 1.35V, it can also work at 1.5V. Of course, the true asset of the memory devices is their ability to run on less power without any impact on performance, enabling memory subsytem power savings of up to 20% over DDR3.

"The benefits of energy-efficient DDR3L memory are clear – most notably the significant reduction in memory sub-system energy consumption and overall system cooling demands. Moreover, these benefits come without sacrificing the performance gains our customers expect from Intel's next-generation servers," Jim Jardine, Lexar Media senior worldwide product manager, said. "Additionally, all Crucial DDR3L 1.35v memory has been fully validated and certified compatible with the Intel Xeon Processor 5600 series, so customers can rest assured their server infrastructure investment will perform reliably and efficiently with Intel's newest processors."

"We appreciate the comprehensive efforts and commitment put forth to deliver Crucial DDR3L low voltage memory that is certified and guaranteed compatible with Intel server platforms and processors," Geof Findley, Intel platform memory operations senior manager, explained. "At Intel, we recognize that energy-efficient technologies are the future of server computing, and we're committed to supporting DDR3L memory as we launch future Intel Xeon processors. As enterprise businesses continue their efforts to maximize IT investments, Intel Xeon processors, in conjunction with the energy-saving DDR3L 1.35v memory, deliver a faster return on those investments."
