Lexar Media may not enter the spotlight as often as other companies on the IT market, but it definitely knows how to cause large waves when it does, as is proven by how it just provided a certain memory card with a positively massive storage capacity.

The thing about flash storage is that, when used in the making of solid state drives (SSDs), it can't exactly match a HDD in pure capacity.

In fact, many SSDs actually stick to the role of boot drives and limit themselves to 60GB or 80GB, perhaps even 120GB before becoming too expensive for all but the most financially-equipped of users.

As such, it will no doubt come as a hit on the head to learn that Lexar Media succeeded in giving a capacity even higher than that not to a SSD, but to an actual memory card.

To be more specific, Lexar just issued a press release saying that it completed the world's very first Professional SDXC (Secure Digital Extended Capacity Memory Card) with a capacity of 128 GB.

This card comes flanked by another one, also boasting the SDXC format, whose capacity is of 64 GB, still massive compared to most other solutions on the market.

They have minimum guaranteed speeds of 133x and easily transmit high-resolution images or HD video from a card to a computer, besides just recording them flawlessly.

Photographers and videographers should find he most use for these newcomers.

"The professional photography industry is at a point where digital photo- and video-capture methods are converging, meaning that professional shooters need a memory solution with the versatility and reliability to safely store both photos and videos," said Pachi Chen-Wong, senior product marketing manager, Lexar Media.

"The 64GB and 128GB Lexar Professional 133x SDXC cards combine high-speed performance with large capacities to offer solutions for professionals who shoot large volumes of high-resolution images and HD video."

Backed by a limited lifetime warranty, the 128GB and 64GB Lexar Professional SDXC cards will become available this quarter for $399.99 and $699.99, respectively.
