The market for Flash-based storage solutions, also known as Solid State Drives, has become ever more interesting, as technology advances and provides consumers with faster, higher-performance and more affordable storage solutions. On that note, Lexar Media, a leading vendor of memory products, has just announced an updated version of its line of SSDs, boosting performance and capacity over previous-generation drives. The company's new Crucial M225 SSD has been designed with increased speeds and capacity and features a 2.5-inch form factor and a SATA 3Gb/s interface.

“By upgrading their system with a solid-state drive, mobile computer users will enjoy a faster, more rugged system with storage built for mobility. The fact that SSDs don’t have any moving parts makes Crucial solid-state drives quieter, cooler, and more durable than traditional hard drives,” said Robert Wheadon, Lexar Media’s senior worldwide product marketing manager.

According to the company, the new Crucial M225 SSD can provide users with speeds of up to 250MB/s read and 200MB/s write. Designed with MLC NAND Flash components, the new SSD will be available to customers in capacities of 64GB, 128GB and 256GB, providing a wider choice for consumers looking to boost their system's storage performance. In addition, Lexar has also announced that the new SSD is fully compatible with the company's SK01 External Drive Storage Kit, which will enable users to take advantage of the new drive's performance in an external storage enclosure.

The new SSD from Lexar is available now for purchase from one of the company's dedicated websites, with prices ranging from US$169.99 for the 64GB to US$599.99 for the 256GB model. The drives are backed by a five-year limited warranty and are not accompanied by the Crucial SK01 External Drive Storage Kit, which is sold separately.
