The 21-year old thinks he's the best man for the job

Lewis Hamilton has another shot at winning McLaren's second racing seat for the 2007 Formula One season. Once Kimi Raikkonen officially announced his signing for Ferrari next year, Ron Dennis will have to find a proper teammate for (still) world champion Fernando Alonso.

The Spaniard already announced his leaving Renault for McLaren about 4 months ago, so the only thing Dennis has to think about is his future co-racer. Although Pedro de la Rosa was given a shot
to race for Mercedes after Montoya's retirement, the English officials seem to have second thoughts in terms of signing him as a race driver for another season.

After all, Ron Dennis admitted that, if Lewis Hamilton won the GP2, he would get a chance to drive for McLaren. The only question is whether Martin Whitmarsh's protégé will race or test for Mercedes. As far as the young Briton is concerned, he stands for racing.

"I have done everything I need to do to prove that I'm ready to race a Formula One car. I need to do testing and get plenty of miles under my belt. Being alongside the best driver, with all that experience - the things I can learn from Alonso would be endless. A race seat alongside him would be the best place for me. I feel that I'm ready to race. Racing is what I do best, so the sooner the better", said Hamilton.

If given a racing seat with McLaren the next season, Lewis Hamilton will become the first black Formula One driver in history. The 21-years old is now beginning a test week for McLaren and is very keen on showing the British team that he is worthy of a driving seat in 2007.

Hamilton's rival in GP2 this season, Nelson Piquet Jr., will be given a chance to become Renault's new test driver this same week, at Silverstone. He will replace Fernando Alonso to test for the French team, alongside Finn Heikki Kovalainen.
