And we thought Nintendo was holding out for CES 2008

According to more than one source on the Internet, Nintendo too has some pretty big announcements to make in the nearby future, one of which is that DS owners will be able to wirelessly download full games, demos and other content via Wii, much like Sony's users do with the PSP, via PS3. More than that, an earlier agreement between Nintendo and several other companies is also taking shape, which could see the DS get its very own movie download service - DSvision.

"Mr. Fils-Amie said that future DS device will be more tightly integrated with its Wii console. Complete games as well as game samplers will be able to be downloaded into the Wii using its broadband connection, and then transferred wirelessly to the DS." The piece goes on revealing that a new puzzle-solving game called Professor Layton is set for launch on the DS, to then be upgraded with new puzzles transmitted to the DS through a wireless download.

"To aggressively drive DS business we need to provide other forms of entertainment to excite the consumer," Fils-Aime added. Currently Nintendo UK has no plans to roll the service in Europe. As you can imagine it's going to take a while before it hits everywhere in the world.

Metropolis.co.jp however, reports that something rather different is heading the handheld's way, following an agreement between Nintendo, print firm DNP and am3, a digital media distributor. Here's the original Metropolis post:

"From March, the DS gets its very own movie download service called Dsvision [...]All that's needed to start using the service is a ?3,890 kit consisting of a USB dongle for a PC, a 512MB microSD card, and an adapter for slotting the card into the DS Lite's game port."

Everything mentioned above will probably be taking a more official route sometime next week, at the CES 2008 event in Vegas, but stay close for updates nonetheless. You know how stuff like this tends to break out before its time comes.
