Hollywood sweetheart Leonardo DiCaprio has recently signed a collaboration between his Foundation and auction house Christie’s. The actor hopes that this partnership will translate into his raising as much as $25 million (€19.12 million) for green causes.

Interestingly enough, this announcement comes shortly after DiCaprio went public with the news that he was to take a break from acting and focus on figuring out ways to make this world a better place instead.

Judging by how much money he hopes to raise for a green-oriented project, few (if any, for that matter) can argue against the fact that the actor is ready and willing to stay true to his words.

In case anyone was wondering what DiCaprio is planning to auction off, here's the answer: dozens of pieces donated by at least 30 of the world's most famous artists alive.

Ecorazzi says that Peter Beard, Carol Bove, Joe Bradley, Cecily Brown, Dan Colen, George Condo and John Currin are just some of these artists.

Since the actor's goal is that of raising money for green causes, it was only natural that Leonardo DiCaprio would come up with a befitting name for this project: The 11th Hour Charity Auction.

Here's what DiCaprio had to say about his deciding to organize this auction and attempt to raise $25 million for the environment:

“The modern world is placing enormous pressure on the very natural systems that sustain us; we are destroying our forests, polluting the air and water, overfishing our oceans and facing overwhelming extinction rates of plants and animals.”

“Nature is abundant and it is resilient, but we have to take action now to protect our planet before it’s too late. Given that less than 2 percent of philanthropic giving goes to environmental conservation projects, we are grateful that Christie’s and the participating artists are providing this incredible opportunity.”

Should things go as planned, the auction will be held this coming May 13 in New York.
