Leonardo DiCaprio is set to star in a project based on the nonfiction best-seller "Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking", according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The movie is an adaptation of "Blink", a story about rapid cognition, about the kind of thinking that happens in a blink of an eye. According to author Malcolm Gladwell, when you meet someone for the first time, or walk into a house you are thinking of buying, or read the first few sentences of a book, your mind takes about two seconds to jump to a series of conclusions. "Blink" is a story about those two seconds when instant conclusions reached by people are really powerful, really important and, occasionally, really good.
The Oscar-winning Stephen Gaghan (Traffic) is set to adapt and direct the Universal Pictures project. The studio is said to be shelling out $1 million for the rights from Gladwell, and is paying $2 million for Gaghan to write the screenplay.
Gladwell, a staff writer with "The New Yorker", was named one of Time magazine's 100 Most Influential People, while Gaghan, with his latest project, "Syriana", which hits theatres later this month, is expected to be nominated for an Oscar.
Meanwhile, Leonardo DiCaprio, who will be back in theaters next year with "The Departed", has to deal with some family problems.
His father was taken to hospital after being hit by a car while out cycling in the Los Feliz neighborhood.
Fortunately, Leo's father, George, suffered minor injuries and he is expected to make a full recovery.
