Leona Lewis has become quite a sensation on both sides of the Atlantic. The British singer, who won the UK talent show "The X Factor" and went on to conquer the hearts of Americans and Brits alike, has become the first British female to score a US number one single in 20 years, and has won glowing praise from such American TV gurus as Jay Leno and Oprah Winfrey. Her career, carefully developing under the patronage and close scrutiny of music mogul Simon Cowell, is reportedly set to take an unexpected turn however, as the beautiful singer has agreed to take off her clothes and pose naked for a campaign for animal rights charity PETA.
It's no secret that PETA loves naked celebrities. In the past, high-profile ladies the likes of Naomi Campbell, Eva Mendes or Dita von Teese stripped for the noble causes professed by the animal rights organization, who also used more controversial women, such as former porn star Jenna Jameson, to obtain the maximum of impact from its audience. However, given that Lewis has been cultivating a squeaky-clean image of "poor talented girl turned international star", it's rather surprising to see her willing to take off her clothes so early in her career. Leona will reportedly bare it all under the"I'd rather go naked than wear fur" slogan, and it's apparently all for the sake of her own personal beliefs rather than the amount of publicity and exposure she's deemed to obtain if she goes through with this.
"She's hugely proud to have been asked. She's a strict vegetarian so it's a cause close to her heart," stated a source close to the Lewis camp. The singer is a strict vegetarian, refuses to wear leather and backs ethical designer Stella McCartney. However, this particular piece of news caused a few raised eyebrows among the singer's critics, who claim nudity is nudity, PETA-inspired or no. However, it remains to be seen whether we'll be seeing Leona expose her curves for the sake of animal rights any time soon, or whether she will choose to wait for a while before going for the full monty.
