Servers for SMBs

Today, at Interop in New York, Lenovo, one of the leading manufacturers of portable computer systems, has announced a new lineup of products, specifically designed to provide small and medium business users with a reliable server platform. The company's new ThinkServer line of products is meant to offer an out-of-the-box solution for users that require a robust performance and high levels of storage, but don't have the dedicated IT staff to set up and manage a server environment.

 

In addition, the company has also announced that the ThinkServers will be offered with an easy-to-use management software and a 90-day trial for the ThinkPad Priority Support, to help users better understand their new ThinkServer product.

 

“With ThinkServer Lenovo delivers exceptionally engineered hardware and easy-to-use software all developed specifically for the SMB customer,” said Marc Godin, vice president and general manager, Enterprise Business Unit, Lenovo. “Lenovo is now delivering a full suite of product offerings for small and medium businesses from desktops to notebooks to servers.”

 

The company launched three towers and two rack x86 servers, all of which have been set provide a scalable server solution to fit the requirements of businesses ranging in size from one to 500 employees. The new ThinkServer family of server systems is available with either a Microsoft Windows Server or a SUSE Linux Enterprise Server from Novell, Lenovo’s preferred Linux operating system provider.

 

The new ThinkServer line consists of Tower TS100, TD100 and TD100x, and Rack RS110 and RD120 server systems. The ThinkServer TS100 and RS110 can be equipped with an Intel Core 2 Duo, or a Xeon 3000 or 3200 processor, and have been designed for small offices. The other ThinkServer systems are meant to accommodate Intel's Xeon 3000 and 5000 processor families and meet the requirements of medium-sized businesses.

 

Furthermore, the new ThinkServer lineup will be offered with the ThinkServer management tools developed by Lenovo. These consist of ThinkServer EasyStartup, ThinkServer EasyUpdate and ThinkServer EasyManage.

 

As far as pricing goes, the new ThinkServer products start at $749 and will be available starting September 30 from Lenovo business partners.
