Intel is working hard to convince notebook makers to lower the average selling prices for UltraBooks below the $699 mark without paying less for its processors and chipsets.

The laptop makers are certainly not biting, but Lenovo is quite close to achieving this goal with its latest UltraBook.

We’re talking about the business-oriented Lenovo ThinkPad T340U.

The company will reportedly launch the new device during this month and the final version will actually come with a ThunderBolt port.

The Lenovo ThinkPad T340U is built around Intel’s latest-generation Ivy Bridge processors and it can handle up to 8 GB or DDR3 RAM memory.

The 14” screen is unfortunately, but expectedly not in the 4:3 format. The format used by Lenovo for its Lenovo ThinkPad T340U is the annoying 16:9 and the pixel resolution is a mediocre 1366 by 768.

The laptop can be fitted with either an SSD or various HDDs and the 3D graphics is handled by a modest Nvidia GT620M GPU with its own dedicated 1GB or video memory.

Casual gamers should not get their hopes up as the GT620M is often slower than AMD’s Trinity A10 APUs.

The Lenovo ThinkPad T340U will bring the well-known quality and reliability that we come to expect from the company and the performance and long battery life are ensured by the new Ivy Bridge CPUs.

We would have liked a 4:3 screen, but that would have made the Lenovo ThinkPad T340U a little bit more expensive and probably heavier as this format has considerable more surface area than the 16:9 format.

Lenovo’s ThinkPad T340U also comes with USB 3.0 connectivity and support for SIM and SD cards if needed.
