Lenovo's ThinkPad Edge 14 was unveiled about three months ago and appears to have become quite popular among its business-oriented peers. In fact, just last month, it was
revealed that the Danube mobile platform, developed by Advanced Micro Devices, had become an option when configuring the mobile PC. Now, the computer maker has updated the offer once more, this time including the quite powerful Intel Core i7-620M central processing unit.
In its base form, the ThinkPad Edge 14 costs roughly $649. The Core i7-620M will add about $350 to the price. This may seem a bit steep at first, but the fact remains that the Core i3-330M, i5-520M and i5-540M can't really begin to compare, performance-wise, with the 620M. It should also be noted that the Edge 14 is, after all, a business-oriented notebook, which means that the price premium may be seen as acceptable it if it means a higher productivity in the long run.
The list of components isn't exactly changed in any other way. The memory capacity is still of up to 3GB, whereas the top HDD storage space is of 500GB. Additionally, a DVD writer should take care of most optical storage needs. However, users that can make do with less can, of course, settle for the base 2GB DDR3 and 250GB HDD. Other specifications include WiFi, an optional webcam, a Mobile Intel 5 Series integrated graphics chipset, an UltraNav pointing device (with or without a fingerprint reader), and a 14-inch HD Vibrant View display.
The ThinkPad Edge can be seen in detail on Lenovo's official
website and is available in three color options, namely Midnight Black Glossy, Midnight Black Smooth and Heatwave Red Glossy. As for software, the machine can be pre-loaded with the Microsoft Office suite, Norton Internet Security or McAfee Virus Scan Plus, with subscriptions of up to 36 months.
