Lenovo has been launching a lot of new products recently

Microsoft is yet to announce Windows 10, but that doesn’t stop device makers who have secured a partnership with the Redmond giant from actually announcing products running the upcoming OS.

It’s the case of Lenovo, who is present at its own Tech World event in Beijing armed with a few interesting new products. Like the second-generation ThinkPad 10 tablet, which is aimed at business users across the world.

The new tablet is pretty similar to the previous-generation model in the sense that it arrives with a 10.1-inch panel running at 1920 x 1200 pixels with 224 ppi and an aspect ratio of 16:10. Also in terms of design, the next-gen ThinkPad 10 does little to differentiate itself from Lenovo’s usual design language.

In the hardware department, Lenovo uses the services of either a quad-core Intel Atom Z8500 clocked at 1.44 GHz (with Turbo Speed up to 2.2GHz) or a quad-core Intel Z8700 clocked at 1.6GHz (with burst frequencies of 2.6GHz).

Lenovo's Surface 3 competitor uses Cherry Trail chips

Both these chips come from the Cherry Trail silicone family, which uses Intel’s 14nm manufacturing process. Lenovo is also offering a choice in the memory department, asking users to opt for either 2GB or 4GB of RAM and 64GB/128GB of built-in storage.

The new tablet offers a 5MP primary camera with LED flash and a 1.3MP secondary front-shooter, in case you’d like to use your slate for photography. There are also optional LED connectivity and a microSD card slot on board.

The 32Wh battery inside should give the tablet up to 10 hours of use time. And if users plan to get even more productive with it, Lenovo is also throwing in a bunch of accessories bound to transform the ThinkPad into a mini laptop. The Ultrabook Keyboard will take care of that and there are also a stylus, a dock and a couple of cases available too.

If you find the specs of the Lenovo ThinkPad 10 oddly familiar, it’s because most of them concur with the ones offered by the Microsoft Surface 3 tablet. But the Surface has a screen tad larger, with a 3:2 aspect ratio, and launched with Windows 8.1 out of the box (update to Windows 10 is guaranteed, however).

The pricing is extremely similar too. Lenovo plans on marketing the ThinkPad starting this August for $549 / €501 a pop.
