Notebook PCs with DirectX 11 graphics aren't exactly widespread, which means that every new addition is seen as a breath of fresh air for enthusiasts that want true, mobile gaming power. Among the models that have already been previewed or launched is Lenovo's IdeaPad Y460. This laptop was initially unveiled at the 2010 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES). Now, two months later, the machine has finally made its appearance on the company's online store, adding to the several other such models that have emerged prior to and during CeBIT.

The notebook PC is powered by the Intel Core i3-330M central processing unit, which has a clock speed of 2.3 GHz, or the Intel Core i5-520M CPU, with a frequency of 2.4 GHz. The processor is backed up by 4GB DDR3 SDRAM 1066Mhz and the storage space can be of either 320GB or 500GB. Of course, as already mentioned, it is the notebook's graphics capabilities that set it apart form most others. This particular configuration comes with an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 card, which has 1GB memory.

DirectX 11 brings a series of benefits to graphics applications, especially 3D games. The most notable of these advantages is tessellation, which adds a higher degree of realism and smoothness to everything from round surfaces to character faces. For these graphics not go to waste, the IdeaPad Y460 boasts a 14-inch LED-backlit display with a maximum resolution of 1366 x 768. As for other specs, the laptop features a DVD writer, Intel Wireless Wi-Fi Link 1000, Gigabit Ethernet, Bluetooth Version 2.1 + EDR, an industry standard touchpad, and a six-cell battery.

Already available for order, the Lenovo IdeaPad Y460 comes pre-installed with the Windows 7 home Premium 64bit operating system and has a starting price of $999. As for product support, the machine is accompanied by a one-year warranty.
