The Lenovo design team stumbled upon this finding by accident

Lenovo announced its ThinkPad 8 tablet not so long ago, alongside the optional Quickshot smart cover, designed to facilitate the process of snapping photographs.

But a keyboard for the product wasn’t in the cards, confesses Lenovo on its official blog page. According to them, keyboards “have a pretty hefty development price tag and the predicted sales volumes were not so high.” So they abandoned the idea altogether.

But then a happy accident happened. Lenovo’s design team stumbled across a pleasant surprise for future ThinkPad 8 owners. Apparently, the tablet is perfectly compatible with the ThinkPad Tablet 2 Bluetooth Keyboard.

The tablet can be arranged to sit in either landscape or portrait mode and users won’t even have to remove the smartcover. The keyboard accessory also features an optical TrackPoint which allows users to move the cursor with ease.

Furthermore, Lenovo throws in a sleeve originally designed for the Tablet 2, and although the ThinkPad 8 can’t be slipped in with maximum smoothness, users can make-do with it, in the end.
