The projector resides in the hinge of the Yoga

Samsung is one tech giant that believes there aren’t enough large tablets in the world. So back at CES 2015 in January, it unveiled the Galaxy NotePRO and TabPRO, two slates coming with massive 12.2-inch displays.

But if a 12.2-incher isn’t big enough for you, maybe the new Yoga Tablet 2 Pro coming from Lenovo might be of interest.

Lenovo makes tablets even larger

The slate takes advantage of a 13-inch display, and judging by the “Pro” moniker attached to it, we previously believed the product was designed to appeal to the business/professional crowd.

However, in the presentation and press release Lenovo focuses on another aspect – apparently the tab has been designed with “massive” multimedia consumption in mind, hence the spacious screen, crisp display and mid-range processor inside.

The tablet delivers 2560 x 1600 pixel resolution, while drawing power from an Intel Atom Z3745 Bay Trail processor, which is the same chimp to be found inside Lenovo’s new set of Yoga tablets with Android and Windows (coming with 8-inch and 10-inch screens).

Previous to the event, we hypothesized Lenovo could surprise us and outfit the Yoga Tablet 2 Pro with a new Intel Core M chip, but as we can clearly see now, this is not the case.

The tablet takes advantage of the same hinge design that allows the tablet to sit itself upright. On top of that, with the newer models, Lenovo has thrown in a new “hang” mode, which means you can hang your tablet in the kitchen or your wall.

The tablet has a built-in projector

However, the hinge in the Yoga Tablet 2 Pro is home to an unexpected surprise – built-in inside it lives a projector that lets you beam out content on the ceiling or any other surface like a wall.

So when you feel like watching a movie with your friends, all you have to do is pull the Yoga Tablet 2 Pro out. The multimedia experience is enriched by the presence of JBL 2.1 channel speakers with 5W subwoofer.

The tablet runs Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box and bundles a 9600 mAh battery which is expected to be able to provide a life cycle of up to 15 hours.

The Yoga also offers two cameras (8MP on the back and 1.6MP up in front), 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage (expandable via microSD slot), 802.11 a/b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and HDMI out.

The tablet is 0.5 inches / 12.7 thick and weighs 2.1 lbs / 0.9 kg. The Lenovo Yoga Tablet 2 Pro is already available for purchase with the price tag of $500 / €393.

The interesting part is that Lenovo also hinted towards a Windows variation of Yoga Tablet 2 Pro, but hasn’t announced an official time-line for it yet.
