Lenovo is one of those device makers that usually take their sweet time when it comes to providing the latest software updates even to the most high-end models from their portfolio.

Android 5.0 Lollipop has been out and about for more than half a year, and phone makers like Motorola and Samsung have been busy updating their phones and tablets to Google’s latest standard. In the meanwhile, Lenovo stood aside watching.

Still, back in February, a report came in saying that the Chinese device maker confirmed it would update a host of its phones to Android 5.0 Lollipop, including the Lenovo A5000, A6000, P70-A, S90-A, Vibe X2, Vibe Z2 and Vibe Z2 Pro.

Sadly, other Lenovo models will be left hanging on to the previous Android 4.4 KitKat version.

Anyway, now the company is holding true to its word and it has started rolling out the Android 5.0 Lollipop update.

Lenovo rolls out Android 5.0.2 for the Vibe Z2 Pro phablet

The new build is rolling out over-the-air to owners of the Vibe Z2 Pro located in India, as reported by GSM Arena. As it usually happens with these updates, Lollipop might reach some users sooner than others, based on location.

So if you’re not currently located in India, you might have some days or even weeks of waiting ahead of you, until the OTA upgrade reaches your device.

Lenovo’s new update comes bearing build number K920_S226_150429_ROW for the Vibe Z2 Pro. The firmware weighs a pretty chunky 1.23GB, so make sure your phone’s battery is charged and you have a stable Wi-Fi connection in your vicinity before initiating the update.

After the new build gets installed on the phone, you should notice some Material Design elements sprinkled over Lenovo’s very iOS-like looking UI. Most importantly, thanks to the new ART run time, the overall performance of the device should see a dramatic improvement.

The Lenovo Vibe Z2 Pro was introduced back in August 2014 and arrived with a massive 6-inch display with QHD resolution (1440 x 2560 pixels) and 490 ppi. Power was provided by a Snapdragon 801 processor fitted with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage (no microSD card on board).

As you can see, the Lenovo Vibe Z2 Pro is on par with most of this year’s flagships spec-wise, and now it will flaunt the same software standard too.
