If that wasn’t enough to appeal to you, the phablet also offers dual-SIM capability

Chinese handset maker Lenovo recently purchased Motorola Mobility in order to expand its smartphone business. Some companies prefer to expand their smartphone business by investing in R&D and get innovative products on the market, while others prefer to acquire other companies, but that’s nothing wrong with either of the methods.

During its IFA 2014 press conference, Lenovo launched a few high-end Android smartphones and one of these devices is supposed to feature a unique design.

Lenovo Vibe X2 is the world’s first layered smartphone, which means that customers can choose a color for each of the phone’s layers. Speaking of which, the Vibe X2 has three layers: front, middle and back.

Each one can have its own color, which is a pretty innovative gradient design that Lenovo thought about. Apart from that, the Vibe X2 offers a powerful 13-megapixel camera that comes with autofocus, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording.

Lenovo Vibe X2 is also the world’s first smartphone to use MediaTek’s MT6595 Tru8Core chipset that packs 4G LTE support and a 2GHz octa-core processor complemented by a PowerVR G600 graphics processing unit.

It has become standard for high-end devices to feature 2GB of RAM inside, while flagship smartphones offer no less than 3GB. The Vibe X2 is not a flagship handset, which is why Lenovo opted for the first solution.

The bad news is Lenovo Vibe X2 lacks microSD card slot for memory expansion, though it does come packed with 32GB of internal memory.

On the positive side, this does seem to be one of the slimmest smartphones soon to be available on the market at only 7.3mm. It also weighs only 120g (battery included), which makes it incredibly light.

The Vibe X2 sports a decent 5-inch FHD (1080p) display that offers 441ppi (pixel per inch), but it doesn’t seem to feature any protection glass.

Lenovo’s high-end handset isn’t just powerful, it also packs some enhanced entertainment specs such as the 5-megapixel camera on the front, which is perfect for selfies.

The phone is powered by a 2300 mAh battery, which is non-removable so you can kiss goodbye to that spare battery that you might want to carry with you. According to Lenovo, the phone’s battery should last for around 10 days of standby or about 17 hours of talk time (19 hours of 3G mode), but the actual usage time will probably be 1 day.

Lenovo Vibe X2 will ship with the Android 4.4.4 KitKat operating system (Vibe 2.0 UI) out of the box and will go on sale in October for $399 (€307) outright.
