Lenovo, one of the leading computer systems makers, has just announced a new ThinkCentre desktop PC designed to deliver a more manageable and secure working environment for professional users. The company's new M58/M58p comes with built-in Power Manager, a ThinkVantage technology that is said to allow PC users to remotely control the amount of electricity they consume.

“The ThinkCentre M58/M58p was designed specifically for the rigorous demands of large enterprises in the business and education world. The design goal for the M58/M58p was to be the greenest, most secure, most manageable and quietest ThinkCentre ever,” said Dilip Bhatia, executive director, global desktop marketing, Lenovo. “Our customers will benefit from our advanced technologies such as Power Manager, support for Hardware Password Manager and other features."

The new ThinkCentre systems are available in three form factors, including Tower, Small Form Factor, and Ultra Small Form Factor, thus meeting the requirements of a vast number of potential customers. Performance-wise, the ThinkCentre M58p offers a top performance level using Intel's vPro processing technology. It boasts an Intel Core 2 Duo E8x00 or Core 2 Quad Q9xx0 processor, and is built on a Q45-enabled platform. In addition, the company claims that its new ThinkCentre system is quieter than any of its previous ThinkCentre models, and, coming to embrace the new technology, it is the first Lenovo ThinkCentre system to deliver an on-board Display Port.

Aside from the technical specifications, Lenovo's new product delivers other advantages as well, such as the afore-mentioned Power Manager, which allows users to program a computer shutdown for weekends or evenings, in order to help them save on the energy bill. The combination of Intel's vPro technologies and the use of Power Manager enable M58/M58p users to deal with a lower total cost of ownership, as compared with any of the company's previous ThinkCentre systems.

As regards pricing, the ThinkCentre M58 and M58p desktops are available for $499 and $899 in Tower and Small Form Factor versions, while the Eco Ultra Small Form Factor will only go on sale in December 2008.
