The company will integrate the feature in ThinkPad items this year

Some may be tempted to assume that Lenovo's recent work on the ThinkPad product line consists of only the slimming of the physical package, but this is not the case at all, it turns out.

Indeed, while the thinnest ever T Series laptop is an impressive piece of work, it is just the tip of the proverbial iceberg.

Lenovo will be adding something else to the ThinkPad line of tablets and ultrabooks in 2013, though not right away: NFC technology.

And we aren't just speaking about any NFC technology (near field communication), but NFC payment support.

That is to say, they will allow owners to carry out online payment procedures like certain smartphones with NFC allow at the moment.

For those unsure of what this all is, NFC payment allows an electronic device to read the information on a credit card.

When ordering something online, buyers would only need to wave or pass their card in front of where the NFC sensor is and voila, instant payment.

At present, Lenovo is still working with payment processors to make NFC transactions more feasible.

Lenovo revealed these plans yesterday (Sunday, March 17, 2013), during the Expand conference in San Francisco.

No confirmation has been given to the prospect of tap-to-pay support, but chances are high that it will be. Knowing how determined Lenovo is whenever it sets a goal, it would be odd for the corporation not to go all the way with this. If nothing else, it will be an extra reason for consumers to buy its ultrabooks, tablets and notebooks.

Granted, we don't think NFC will be a key factor in Lenovo's securing of the top PC supplier position, but it can't hurt to have all potential outlets covered.
