The ThinkPad Yoga 14 won’t be getting Broadwell

Last year Lenovo introduced the ThinkPad Yoga convertible model which arrived with a 12.5-inch, but if that form factor isn’t satisfactory enough for you, you’ll be glad to know the producing company has pushed out a successor.

Say hello to the ThinkPad Yoga 14 which, as the name indicates, is a 14-inch laptop that can be used in multiple ways by virtue of its “Lift’n Lock” mechanism.

Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga 14 was kept away from the spotlight

Lenovo’s recent media event focused on the introduction of consumer products like a new set of Yoga tablets running either Android 4.4 KitKat or Windows 8.1 out of the box, so it didn’t make a big deal out of the ThinkPad Yoga 14, which is a machine designed for the business crowd (as seen at Techlicious).

The hybrid has a 14-inch display of the IPS variety with 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution and draws life from an Intel Core i5 Haswell processor fitted with 8GB of RAM and backed up by 1TB hard drive with 16GB of solid state cache.

Lenovo is also offering the option to add NVIDIA GeForce 840M graphics onboard of the new lappy. It’s worth mentioning here that NVIDIA already rolled out its next-gen GPUs, in the form of GeForce GTX 970M and 980M.

Anyway, other specifications include a docking connector and ports such as SD card reader, 2 USB 3.0, one USB 2.0 and HDMI output.

The ThinkPad Yoga 14 isn’t exactly the sleekest machine you’ll ever meet, but it won’t break your hands or your shoulder (if you carry in a bag) either, coming in at 4.1 lbs / 1.8 kg and 0.7 inches / 17.78 mm in profile.

If you throw in the extra NVIDIA graphics option, the machine will get even heavier, but that’s the price you’ll have to pay if you want to take advantage of extra performance.

The ThinkPad Yoga 14 is quite sturdy

The ThinkPad Yoga 14’s case is made of magnesium alloy with a keyboard that can flip back with 360 degrees when you need to use the computer in tablet mode. The keyboard has been designed to actually retract when that happens, so you won’t accidentally touch the keys while you’re holding the tab.

As for battery life, Lenovo says users should expect to get up to 8 hours of juice, on a single charge.

The 14-inch ThinkPad Yoga won’t be cheap, and with a price-tag starting at $1,200 / €944, it’s pretty comparable to the Yoga 3 Pro which sells for $1,349 / €1,061. Just save up a little more and you can get a machine with better resolution and Intel Core M processor.
