Lenovo’s ThinkPad Tablet has certainly been a tough nut to crack, but hackers have finally managed to root the slate and unlock its bootloader, so you can now install custom recovery apps or other software.

Put together by security researcher Dan Rosenberg, the hack is pretty straightforward, if you already installed the Android SDK or enabled ADB on your computer, as it only requires users to download the rooting utility and run it on a Windows computer.

Detailed install instructions, together with the root exploit tool, are available on Rosenberg’s website and if you want to go one step forward this thread details how to install ClockworkMod Recovery on the ThinkPad tablet.

So there you have it. The ThinkPad Tablet can now be rooted just as easy as other Android slates around, which means that the first custom ROMs should be right around the corner.
