14 DAY TRIAL // The IFA 2014 trade show is just a few days from us and top device manufacturers are getting ready to impress the audience. Lenovo is one of them and we have already told you that the company is expected to unveil its first wearable.
What about tablets and laptops? Well, it appears the company might be having a few of those up its sleeve. According to Notebook Italia, the device market could be bringing out two new tabs at IFA 2014.
The devices were spotted making a stop at the FCC not so long ago. The first one is the ThinkPad Helix 2 (a refresh of the original Helix). Sadly, there are no technical specifications available for the new products but we can indulge you with a few images.
The original ThinkPad Helix came equipped with an 11.6-inch HD 1080p IPS display and drew life form a 3rd-gen Intel Core processor (up to i7) so the next generation will certainly bring about improved specs.
The machine is a 2-in-1 allowing users to take advantage of it as a tablet or dock it in a keyboard base.
Judging by the images, the new device will probably be offered with a standard keyboard or keyboard pro powerbase, which adds an external enclosure that houses a smart stylus.
The keyboard pro scenario will bring about more modes of use, including traditional notebook mode, presentation mode or tent mode.
Since Lenovo decided not to bring Haswell into the picture for the original Helix, we might as well assume the next-gen hybrid will take advantage of this architecture. Even better, it's possible we’ll going to see it take advantage of the new Broadwell platform.
Another possibility is that Lenovo is looking to make a transition to cheaper models and will add Bay Trail under the hood.
The second product that was uncovered in the FCC database is the Lenovo Tab S8, which will arrive with a look reminiscent to the Lenovo IdeaTab A8.
Again, we’re at a loss specifications-wise, but the Intel logo can be spotted on the back of the tablet so we can speculate the device will make it out with either Bay Trail or the new Moorefield platform.
The slate will be offered in black / white but also in more charming variations like blue and yellow. Further research confirmed that Lenovo Tab S8 would be an 8-inch tab in two versions. Maybe customers will be given the chance to opt between HD and Full HD and 4G / Wi-Fi.
Hopefully, all these questions will be answered in a few days.
