Lenovo’s first wearable shows up in its official shop

Earlier this month, what appeared to be Lenovo’s first smartband made an appearance with the FCC.

Sadly, we were quite disappointed with it as the device looked quite rookie, but it appears Lenovo thinks the new wearable is good enough to be launched on the market.

Lenovo's first wearable goes official

Now, Lenovo has quietly introduced its first wearable which is now sitting in its webshop. It’s not yet available for order, but the company offers some official information about the product, so we know what to expect.

From the start, we can tell you the fitness tracking device will be offered in Blue or Yellow, both in combination with Black.

The wearable sells under the name of SW-B100 and seems to be quite in league with similar products offered on the market at this point. So expect the band to count your steps, distance traveled and the amount of calories you have burned.

The listing on the Lenovo website also mentioned something about heart rate tracking, so the device should bundle a sensor capable of measuring that in its midst. All the info will be used to construct an aggregate to be displayed in a daily, weekly or monthly graph via the companion mobile app.

Apart from the fitness-centric capabilities, the Lenovo smartband also borrows some features from smartwatches, meaning it can display notifications for incoming calls and texts complete with the sender’s name and number.

The device will also display reminders, health-related or otherwise. On top of that, a social network sharing feature is advertised too, but it’s limited to tracking info. Last but not least, the band will show you what time it is.

Lenovo's smartband to compete with the Samsung Gear Fit

The Lenovo smartband basically sounds quite similar to the Samsung Gear Fit, but the latter product seems sleeker, to be honest. To us, the Lenovo SW-B100 looks quite amateurish and standard. There’s no innovation in design or features that would make this product a must.

No wonder Lenovo didn’t make a big deal with the launch of this product.

As time passes, we are still expecting Lenovo’s first smartwatch, but rumors about the topic have died down. At some point, talk about a Lenovo intelligent timepiece running Android Wear surfaced online but nothing in this direction materialized

It might be that Lenovo is following in the footsteps of HTC, a company which announced it was putting off its smartwatch efforts until a later time. The device maker feels the smartwatch market is quite over populated, but none of the products “got it right.”
