The Lenovo Miix 3 tablet might launch soon

A few months ago, Lenovo announced that it would discontinue the production of the Miix 2 8-inch tablet once the current stocks of the device run out (at least in the US).

Then, in August, rumors about Lenovo prepping the next-generation Miix 3 tablets surfaced online. Back then, we couldn’t tell you a lot about specifications, but we hoped that the tablet might show up at IFA 2014.

That wasn't the case, but this doesn’t mean that the Miix 3 won’t be launched at some point. Actually, this week we’re seeing clear evidence that this event is not far from us.

As Tablets Magazine reports, the Lenovo Miix 3 has been spotted on a Chinese website in a promotional image. The tablet is touted as coming with an 8-inch display (actually 7.85 inches, to be more precise) and running Windows 8.1 out of the box.

Not all specs are known for the time being

The display is of the IPS LCD variety; therefore, it brings about high brightness (300 nits) and wide viewing angles. The actual resolution of the tablet is not known, but hopefully it will go beyond 1280 x 800. After all, the Miix 2 was offered with a full HD option too, so it makes sense that the next-gen will offer at least this standard.

An interesting aspect is that the promotional picture shows the tablet side-by-side with a stylus, but no extra information is given by the Chinese publication. We might be dealing with an active digitizer here or not.

Moving on, the Lenovo Miix 3 appears to be taking advantage of an Intel Atom Z3700 processor backed up by four cores and accompanied by Intel HD Graphics with DirectX 11 technology.

Everything onboard is fitted with 2GB of RAM and either 32GB or 64GB of internal storage, which can be extended via microSD for those who feel they need more. The tablet weighs just 350 g / 0.77 lbs.

Lenovo Miix 3 will probably make it to Europe, the US later on

The Chinese listing reveals that the tablet will go on sale in the country for approximately €190 / $246. We currently don’t have any information concerning when Lenovo plans to start selling the new tab in Europe or the US, but we guess it shouldn’t be long.

A while ago, an alternative design for the Lenovo Miix 3 surfaced, showing a sleek tablet that came with a detachable keyboard. We can now see this is not the case, albeit the slate comes with a protective folio that can act as a stand too.
