Like Samsung, Lenovo wants to be part of the wearable market

Today brings to our attention a new patent filled by Lenovo, a company mostly known for its laptop and PC business.

Apparently, the tech giant has filed a patent with the USPTO entitled “Electronic Device and Sound Capturing Method” which details a device that looks extremely reminiscent of the Google Glass (as seen at Ubergizmo).

It appears the mirage of the Glass is slowing drawing the competition in. Samsung filled a similar patent that was uncovered not so long ago and now Lenovo is doing the same.

Surely, just because a company is filing a patent doesn't mean the device will ever see the light of day, but at least the move tells us Lenovo is considering the scenario.

Judging by the description in the documents, the device is relatively simple, bundling a built-in audio, video recorder and VOD display. So it seems fair to assume that the Lenovo “Glass” will be able to display notifications on the screen, send out messages and the like.

Interestingly enough, the patent states this is a “recording device” and doesn't mention the term “wearable,” but maybe this is Lenovo’s way of avoiding a big, fat lawsuit.

Even if wearables aren't breaking any sales records, the field is developing fast and every major tech company has taken a keen interest in the ecosystem. Lenovo has demonstrated interest for wearables in the past and it was speculated the tech giant might even take up Android Wear for a spin.
