One again, Lenovo has stepped up an offered something not for the consumer segment, but for the business and enterprise market, namely a new mobile workstation from the ThinkPad series.

Like so many other companies on the IT market, Lenovo offers computing solutions for both the consumer and the business/enterprise/professional segments.

In this instance, the company tried its hand at high-end mobile computing, shaping its efforts into the ThinkPad W520.

This mobile workstation was announced back in February but has only now been listed as available for order.

It should act as a sort of foil to the 15-inch Apple MacBook Pro, as it measure 15.6 inches in diagonal and has a quad-core Intel processor.

Specifically, the CPU (central processing unit) here employed is the Intel Core i7-2720QM, provided one has the money for it (the frequency is of 2.2 GHz). For those with lower funds, the dual-core Core i7-2620M chip, clocked at 2.7 GHz, can be chosen as well.

Either way, the selected chip is backed up by up to 8 GB of RAM (random access memory) and complemented by a suitably mighty professional graphics card (NVIDIA Quadro 1000M).

It should be mentioned that the Optimus technology is present, meaning that the switch between the integrated and the discrete graphics is done automatically.

That said, a hard disk drive provides 500 GB (160 GB SSDs are optional) while the display can be of the HD (1,366 x 768 pixels) or Full HD (1,920 x 1,080 pixel) variety. Other specs include a DVD drive, built-in WWAN, Bluetooth 3.0 and WiFi.

Those wishing to buy one will have to part with $1,449 (Core i7-2620M) or $1,649 (Core i7-2720QM). The listing can be found here.

Finally, those that are looking for a 'regular' workstation, meaning one with a desktop form factor, can take a look at the ThinkStation E30, which we covered here.
