Lenovo Group just announced that it launched a new desktop computer system named Blue Sky that breaks all records when it comes to the power consumed, as it is the smallest and the most energy efficient desktop on the market today. The new desktop comes under the formal name of ThinkCentre A61e and it is supposed to start shipping sometime during the next month.

Apart from being very energy
efficient, it also features a compact design as it is about the size of a telephone book, and according to the news site computerworld that cites Lenovo officials, its price tag is one of the lowest in its segment as the Blue Sky desktop system has a starting price of $399. While the compact design and small form factor are important for today's offices, the main innovation of the Blue Sky system is that it runs with only 45W of power and that is simply amazing as it is a fully loaded desktop computer.

On the hardware side, the Lenovo Blue Sky desktop will come equipped with a range of central processing units from Advanced Micro Devices, and users may choose from several models of processors, ranging from the cheap and not very powerful Sempron to the top of the line Athlon 64 X2 dual core processors. In order to keep the design compact and lightweight, Lenovo opted for some ultra small hard disk drives which offer storage capabilities between 80GB and 750GB, while on the random access memory, the ThinkCentre A61e desktop computer system comes with 4GB of DDR2. On the software side, the Blue Sky offers its users the option of two pre-installed operating systems, as it can be shipped with either Microsoft Windows XP or Windows Vista.

While the stated price tag of $399 may sound as very low for a Lenovo-built computer system, Blue Sky comes without a display screen, keyboard or mouse, so the total price will be somewhat higher. The manufacturing company expects to start shipping the computer in October and according to it, the new system is dedicated to small businesses, education centers and to the medical and financial sectors. This new computer from Lenovo is the first to win a Gold rating from the industry association Green Electronics Council.
