The so-called “Battery Safeguard” feature may ruffle some feathers

Lenovo really wants to make sure its laptops use as many of its own inventions as possible, so it will indirectly crack down on makers of batteries as soon as its upcoming Ivy Bridge systems show up.

This is still just a rumor, but it is said that Lenovo's ThinkPad Edge E430 and E530 mobile personal computers will boast the “Battery Safeguard” feature.

Essentially, it is meant to prevent manufacturers or customers from using batteries other than Lenovo's official ones.

Obviously, this is a maneuver meant to boost the company's finances even further.

Long story short, the laptop will scan for a special chip that Lenovo will begin integrating into its battery packs. Should that processor be absent, the laptop will simply not work, no matter what third-party manufacturers or buyers say or do.
