Lenovo Is Very Serious About Tablets, Smart TVs, Creates Dedicated Business Group

The important of Internet tablets, smartphones and Smart TVs has grown considerably over the past couple of years, so much that IT behemoths such as Lenovo consider it necessary to create a special business unit dedicated specifically to this brand of products.

The new group, called the Mobile Internet and Digital Home Business Group (MIDH), will be responsible for creating mobile Internet-focused devices, including tablets and smartphones, as well as devices for new categories like cloud computing, smart TV and the digital home, which are sure to become mainstream over the next couple of years.

Liu Jun, formerly senior vice president and president of Lenovo’s Product Group, who's currently based at the company’s China headquarters in Beijing, will lead the new group as president, while Peter Hortensius, formerly head of the Think Product Group, has been promoted to president of the Product Group.

“Lenovo recognizes the tremendous growth potential of the mobile internet, as well as that of new categories like cloud computing and smart TV, and so we are putting the focus and investments in place to fully capitalize on these opportunities to drive growth in our business today and for many years to come,” said Yang Yuanqing, chief executive officer, Lenovo.

“The Mobile Internet and Digital Home Business Group will help us leverage our leadership in the PC arena to create a rich portfolio of Internet-centric devices. At the same time, we’ll use our creativity, innovation and technical prowess to help our customers navigate the future of personal technology worldwide,” Lenovo's CEO added.

Of course, it remains to be seen just what Lenovo's dedicated group will come up with over the next year, but given the company's current record (I mean, just look at their impressive product lineup), we're pretty sure that they'll manage to develop and launch some pretty exciting novelties.
